Introduction

Paediatric nurses in the UK play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of children. However, the demands of the job can be intense and emotionally taxing. To gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by paediatric nurses and how to support them, a private healthcare provider partnered with Integra Research Solutions to conduct an online survey of 50 paediatric nurses across the UK who had at least five years of experience in the field.

Objectives

The objectives of the study were to gain insights into the emotional well-being, experiences, and challenges faced by paediatric nurses in hospitals and community settings across the UK. The study aimed to provide valuable insights that can inform decision-making around recruitment, retention, training, and support for paediatric nurses.

Methodology

Integra Research Solutions developed an online survey that took approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey questions were designed to gather insights into the emotional well-being, experiences, and challenges faced by paediatric nurses. Participants were recruited through the Integra Professionals community and held an up-to-date paediatric nursing qualification. Measures were taken to ensure data quality, including screening for incomplete or inconsistent responses.

Results

The survey revealed that the majority of paediatric nurses reported feeling stressed and overwhelmed. The survey also highlighted the need for better support and resources for paediatric nurses, including training and development opportunities and ongoing support for emotional well-being. The study provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by paediatric nurses in the UK and the emotional toll it can take on their well-being.

Recommendations

The insights gained from the study can inform decision-making around recruitment, retention, training, and support for paediatric nurses. Healthcare providers and policymakers should consider providing more training and development opportunities for paediatric nurses, as well as resources for managing stress and emotional well-being. Additionally, healthcare providers should prioritise the creation of supportive work environments that promote the overall well-being of paediatric nurses.

Conclusion

This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of Integra Research Solutions’ online market research in gaining insights into the emotional well-being of paediatric nurses and the broader issues facing the healthcare industry in the UK. The insights gained from the study can inform decision-making around recruitment, retention, training, and support for paediatric nurses and enhance the quality of care for children across the UK.
